SAEF Coaching

What is a coach developer?

SAEF in conjunction with the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) has trained a number of Coach Developers  to assist with the implementation of the coaching career framework and to conduct training courses, coach-the-coaches training, across the country. The Coach Developers (CD) themselves are highly trained and experienced coaches from various SAEF disciplines. They have put their expertise and commitment forward to helping us strengthen the skills and knowledge of equestrian coaches.

The CDs are responsible for educating and training equestrian coaches at various levels, from beginners to advanced professionals. This includes teaching

  • coaching techniques
  • technical skills to ensure coaching practices align with the FEI’s standards and regulations
  • assessment skills, eg how to assess rider and horse to plan your lesson

The CDs are also instrumental in developing coaching programs and materials. They help create curricula, resources, and guidelines to enhance the quality of coaching in equestrian sports. They stay updated with the latest developments in equestrian coaching and share this knowledge with coaches they train. This ensures that coaches are continually improving their skills and knowledge.

Overall, our Coach Developers play a crucial role in advancing coaching standards and the overall quality of equestrian coaching in accordance with the FEI’s guidelines and principles.

What We Do

We spearhead the implementation of the coaching career path and ensure that that, through continuous education and qualifications, our coaches are of the highest technical standards. We do this by

  • Uniting all equestrian coaches as recognised professionals in one Community
  • Providing all coaches access to learning opportunities, such as technically correct and inspiring holistic coaching sessions
  • Safeguarding all participants (horse, rider, coach) by setting standards of ethical behaviour and upholding a coaches’ code of conduct
  • Protecting and growing the reputation of equestrian sports, through which we continue to earn our social licence to operate from the public
  •
